In the end, there can be only one. Unfortunately, the series would be cancelled after the pilot episode, since the first quickening would take out the entire ground station.

The National Weather Service has upgraded this winter storm to an official blizzard, and they are discouraging travel, so who am I to argue? Work is supposedly open for business, but given that this storm is supposed to really get going by noon, I'm more worried about getting home than getting there. If they close, cool. If not, I have the PTO hours to cover it.

Stay safe, everyone. Days like today are what telecommuting was made for...too bad my company hasn't figured that out yet.

I'm going to need to learn Visual Basic for work. Part of my job will be figuring out some old code and (hopefully) fixing it, as well as developing new code. This will be both VBA within Excel and freestanding applications. I want to pick up a book this week to start teaching myself VB. Which book do you recommend? I looked up the O'Reilly books online, and it looks like there are several for VB, so I'm not sure which one to get.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Oh man, the past two weeks have been crazed. Thus, this entry is best done in bullet points.

- Went to the TBP National Convention in Dearborn, MI
- Met my 5-month-old baby cousin
- Had lunch with several extended family members I rarely see
- Put close to 3000 miles on my car (the new "modern" rest stops rock! Wi-fi and weather radar in addition to the restrooms and vending machines)
- 53 mpg from Denver to Detroit
- 50 mpg from Detroit to Denver (thank you, headwind in Nebraska)
- Listened to the audiobook of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
- BSed my way through a design review that nobody was ready for
- Got a really good job offer
- Handed in my two-weeks notice at the current job
- Survived all this without losing too much more of my mind, or gaining any weight

As for this, I must say, only in Colorado:

If you're local, go do something outside today. Save the indoor activities for tomorrow.

Edit: As you might guess, I'm way behind on reading the FL. I'll catch up eventually, but in the meantime, if something needs my attention soon, please point it out.

I got back into town late last night, stayed over at the parents' house, slept in, and headed home this afternoon. Here's the short version of my trip:

- Ted sucks
- Ted's pilots need to be screened for epilepsy
- I continue to reserve judgement on the quality of Vegas food
- The Strip can be seen from pretty much anywhere, though I didn't get any closer to it than the freeway to the airport
- Getting to work on things you know something about is good, and it had been far too long since I had the opportunity
- Corporate culture has a bigger impact on a business than you might think
- My boss should not be allowed to drive...ever
- I miss food that isn't a coronary waiting to happen
- My iPod fritzed out on Tuesday; gotta figure out what's wrong
- It's good to be home

Also, you guys wrote 3 pages worth of entries, so it might take me a bit to catch up. If anything huge happened, please point it out to me so I don't miss it.

'Tis the season for work holiday parties, and mine is coming up a week from Thursday. I'm allowed to bring a guest, so I was wondering if anyone reading this would be interested. Said party mainly consists of dinner at The Fort in Morrison, which I've never been to but have heard is really good. This would be in the evening after work.

Anybody interested?

Oh joy, I get to work this weekend! Probably both Saturday and Sunday! I'm sure you're all so jealous too.

*Sigh* I really needed this weekend too. Guess it's a good thing I didn't have any firm plans.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] willow_red,

I'm jealous! You always talk about April with such a mixture of loathing, trepidation, and excitement. Where's the love for me? Just because I come afterward doesn't mean I should be treated as anti-climactic. That's it. This year, the gloves are coming off. You *will* notice me! You *will* remember me! As an opening salvo, enjoy your last-minute business trip to Washington, DC next week. While there, have fun meeting up with your friend Cheree and her (by then) new husband.

...And to think, I'm just getting started!

Love and kisses,

The Merry Month of May

For as long as I can remember, my life has revolved around the school year. Even after I graduated, I found ways to make it remain so. Fall is for new beginnings, Spring is increasingly busy and stressful, and Summer is when I find time to recharge and re-motivate myself. The past year has been a little off, because fall was my Summer, and winter became my Fall. But now the year has caught up with itself, in time to converge on a busy, stressful, fun, angsty April.

Now it is May, and while I have a little more time on my hands, it isn't so much that I can talk about everything from last month in one entry. So, here's the Reader's Digest version, and I'll try to make time to tell some of the good stories later. If there's anything in particular you want to hear about, comment and I'll talk about that stuff first.

Disjointed account of April, written at various times over the past couple of days )

Um, there were more things that happened, including the anime club marathon, and a lot of angst about things that ended up not happening, but I have to be up early tomorrow, so I'll sign off now.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it though, and I'm still breathing. 101 in 1001 update coming soon.

Big contract at work to be announced today. Cross your fingers, if you're so inclined.

Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] omegadog!

Happy Yuri's Night! (as in Gagarin, not what you're thinking, you sicko! ;)

Happy Passover!

Best new acronym I've learned this week: GOMR (pronounced "gomer") -- Get Off My Rocket!

Next week, I'll be starting a new job.

There is, however, one catch.

I don't know which job it will be yet...stay tuned!
