Request for Help
Sep. 29th, 2006 09:03 amAs some of you already know, the Tau Beta Pi national convention is less than a week away. Needless to say, with 500 people showing up in Denver in a matter of days, we're all going pretty nuts over here. Of course, we were expecting that. What we weren't expecting was the serious lack of people willing to volunteer to help out. Without volunteers, the convention falls apart. The handful of us who *are* working on it are only capable of being in so many places at once. So I'm putting out the call. If you or someone you know (it doesn't matter if you're a member of the engineering honor society or if you've never even knew there was such a thing) has any time available next week between Wednesday and Saturday, even if it's only a couple of hours, please let me know ASAP!
Volunteers get:
- A convention t-shirt
- Meals if you are around at a mealtime
- A place to crash overnight at the hotel (Denver Renaissance, 3801 Quebec, Denver) if you need it
- For every two hours you volunteer, you get one entry into our drawing. Prizes include: a brand new iPod Shuffle and Target gift cards
- Access to the career fair if you are around on Thursday during the day (this might only be of interest to engineering, programmer, and maybe business types)
- And last, but not least, my gratitude
Volunteer opportunities:
Wednesday, October 4
- DIA, 9am-11pm. We need 1-2 volunteers at the airport at any given time to greet convention attendees and direct them toward the bus to the hotel. Let me know how long you'd be available to work, so we can have all times covered.
- Hotel, anytime. We need help assembling packets, gifts, etc. for convention attendees so they can get their stuff at registration on Thursday. More people makes it go faster.
Thursday, October 5
- DIA, 7:30am-3:30pm. Same as above, but we'd like to have 5-6 people during the peak hours of late morning, early afternoon.
- Hotel, 9am-3pm. Help with guest registration, ideally 3-4 people. Will probably split this into morning and afternoon shifts.
- Hotel, 5:45pm-6:30pm. Set up for dinner and take tickets at the door.
- Hotel, all day. Roamers to help out at the career fair, and take care of any incidentals that crop up during the day.
Friday, October 6
- Hotel, 11:15am-noon. Set up for lunch and take tickets at the door.
- Hotel, 6pm-6:45pm. Set up for dinner and take tickets at the door.
- Hotel, all day. Roamers, same as above.
Saturday, October 7
- Hotel, 11:15am-noon. Set up for lunch and take tickets at the door.
- Wings Over the Rockies Air & Space Museum. Set up for dinner and take tickets at the door. (This event comes with the extra bonus of free admission to the museum, and plenty of time to wander around and check it out. Also, our keynote speaker that evening will be Bill Anders, who flew on Apollo 8 around the Moon!)
