Yes, as always I'm a slacker about posting, but I have a new excuse now! My puppy is a tad jealous of me spending time on the computer. Not that I'm going to let him get away with that, but we're still training each other. I'm officially calling him Akito now <fangirl> from Kodocha, not Nadesico or Fruits Basket or anything else </fangirl>.

We just got back from the vet a little while ago, and Akito is a happy, (mostly) healthy little puppy. He's about twice as old as we originally thought. This vet thinks Akito was born around the end of August or beginning of September rather than late October. We also think that in addition to being a German Shepherd, he's also got some Australian Cattle Dog in him too. The vet seems like a nice guy, but alas, he still isn't Doc, so I want to try to get Akito up to Aspen Park before much longer (though not in weather like this).

I'm trying to get Akito to quit biting me every chance he gets. We had a really rough time last night. Even though he hasn't ever drawn blood, he got my finger badly enough that I had to put ice on it, and that really pissed me off. I hit Google to see what I could find to get him to stop biting me, since the things I was doing weren't working. As it turns out, I was already doing mostly what I should, but there was one more suggestion that amounted to the puppy-equivalent of a public depantsing. Lo and behold, it worked! He still sort of bites me, but there's no pressure behind the teeth, so I can deal for now. Besides, once he's done teething, I'm sure he'll get over even that much.

Next step: dealing with the barking (though he's not as bad as any other dog I've had) and learning basic puppy tricks.

Oh, and I have pictures (and one short movie), but I haven't uploaded them yet.
