Yet Another Rare Update
Aug. 9th, 2004 11:36 amOnce again, much going on and no time to update, but I offer this now anyway. I'm sure people are curious about the latest on the house situation. For those who weren't on the moo at precisely the right time to hear me rant, here you go.
In a normal contract to buy a house, there is something called an "inspection deadline" that happens ten days after the contract is signed. This means that the buyer has that much time to bring someone in to inspect the home, and can then negotiate with the seller over any problems that are found.
Well, I got an inspector the day after my bid was officially accepted (two weeks ago). We scheduled the inspection for that Friday. That day, the inspector arrived early at the property and called me to say that even though we had been assured that everything would be ready for inspection, there was a crew inside, painting. No way we could do an inspection that day. So we rescheduled for the following Wednesday. Went in last Wednesday. This time, the walls were painted, and the new flooring put in (carpet & vinyl). However, plenty of things were not hooked up (toilet in the backyard, no shower/bathtub fixtures, washer/dryer/stove in the dining room), so once again, no real way to do an inspection. This time, we went over to the sales office and really complained. We had the head of the remodeling project and the head maintenence worker in there to hash this out. After much confusion, we rescheduled *again* for tomorrow. Here's hoping it actually happens this time. Oh yeah, and they've been steadily going back on their claims of all new appliances. Now I'm down to just functional used stuff. These guys are such cheap-skates. Of coure, they're willing to let me pay extra...
My real estate agent called me today to say that the closing manager wants to schedule my final walk-through for this Friday. This just hacked me off. I haven't even had a chance to see what I want done in time for said walk-through. Besides, that sort of thing is usually right before closing, in the last couple of days. *grumble, mutter, grumble*
In other news, my monitor chose to crap out this weekend too, but luckily,
illyanarasputin and
nakano have a spare that they'll let me use for a while, since this is a really bad time for me to spend the money on a new one.
To end on a positive note, I won my first costuming prize last night! Rock Island in LoDo had a goth/anime costume night last night, and
moogle_of_lulu talked me into going. I wore my Utena costume and was one of very few anime costumes (most people went for the goth look instead). Apparently, people liked the costume, so I won a prize! They gave me volume one of Demon City Hunter, which looks rather goth.
Life is very busy these days and looks to stay that way until about mid-October. Here's hoping the house madness takes care of itself pretty soon, though!
Edit: This is very strange. I hooked up the other monitor, got it working, then switched back to the original, and it seems to be working again. Not quite sure what's going on here. Plus there's still something not quite right about the picture.
