I've listed 10 TV series. Your job is to guess which character from that series is my favorite. When somebody guesses correctly, I edit to list the character and why he/she is my favorite. I want to put my own twist on this. For any series older than ten years, guess my favorite character then and now (might be the same, might be different). Plus, since I couldn't think of ten TV shows, I'm cheating and going to fifteen, but adding movies, books, and anime.

1. Star Trek: The Next Generation (This one is turning out to be really hard. I thought I had told a bunch of people already...) Yea, a couple of people finally got it! My favorite character in TNG is the one that other people love to hate for some reason. Yes, I'm talking about Wesley Crusher. That's because of all of the characters, he was most like me. It was about not fitting in with the adults or the kids your own age. It was about the pressures of being the "smart kid" and what others expected of you because of that. I felt like a lot of this was summed up in a conversation he had with Guinan, and she asked him if he thought he'd get an A on the project he was working on (despite the fact that it released nanites that took over the ship, whee!), and he said, "I always get an A." That moment really spoke to me when I was that age. Years later, I find out that actor Wil Wheaton is a total geek too, and a very cool guy.
2. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine A lot of the characters in DS9 had a hard time finding their place, but I've always liked Jadzia Dax. She had an interesting dichotomy of being old and young at the same time. She had a lot to draw on from the previous hosts of the Dax symbiont, and I thought she did a good job of showing the ups and downs of having that much personal history.
3. Buffy: The Vampire Slayer This one was a total gimme. I mean, look at the username and icons. Willow is my favorite character on Buffy because she reminds me so much of the person I was in high school (especially first season Willow). We're both Jewish, we both had pathetic crushes on guys we'd known since childhood who probably knew about said crush but were uninterested, we were both social outcasts aside from a small group, and we both had people wanting us to do their homework for them (though I've always had a stronger will than Willow). You'll be shocked to learn that she's probably my favorite character on this list.
4. Stargate: SG-1
5. Battlestar Galactica (the original, as there is no remake, only Zul) Was: ??? Is: Sheba. She's the only really useful female character. She's a viper pilot along with the boys, but she doesn't exist as eye candy or simply for the sake of her relationship with a male character. She doesn't come in until later in the series, but is still around long enough to be my favorite character.
6. The A-Team Ah, The A-Team, my first fandom. When I was a little kid, Murdock was my favorite because he was crazy and funny (Mr. T was never popular in my house). As an adult, I like him because he's clearly an aerospace engineer (in "Holiday in the Hills" he designs and constructs an ultralight aircraft), and he plays the system so he can get away with things. In one or two episodes, when Hannibal is out of commission, Murdock shows that he's capable of taking over and creating his own plans that work. That said, Hannibal is a close runner-up these days. His quotes of wisdom alone simply rule. "If you ignore the obvious, you can get away with anything."
7. Sliders
8. Highlander Methos is hands-down the most interesting character on Highlander. He's ~4000 years old, the oldest immortal. He was one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He's seen and done it all, yet manages to still be interesting. Now, he poses as Watcher Adam Pierson, researching the legend of Methos. How cool is that? Pretend to be researching yourself, and every so often, come up with a story from your past that you "discovered". He deserved the spinoff series, not freakin' Amanda. But then, I'm a little obsessive. Whenever I see the actor in other movies/series, I integrate it into a theory of why Methos would be there. So far, I've seen him in X-Men 2 and an episode of Stargate: SG-1.
9. Firefly Kaylee is my favorite character, though not by much. I like most of the characters on Firefly. Kaylee mostly gets the edge because she's the Willow-like character, and an engineer. If the series had been allowed to go on longer (come on, Serenity movie!), I'd have better reasons, or possibly a different favorite character.
10. Lord of the Rings Book: ??? Movie: Legolas. The elves are pretty cool in general, and I know a lot of my reasons for liking Legolas are pretty shallow, but I think I'm entitled once in a while. Can I just say, the hair? I want my hair to grow out so I can do that style again. While time-consuming, it's surprisingly practical to run around in all day. Also, I love listening to Orlando Bloom speak Elvish. Okay, stopping now.
11. Harry Potter Again, Hermione rocks because I can identify with her. I've always loved reading, and I've been the outcast too. Granted, I never take things as far as she does at times. She does the research, she makes the plans, and she keeps Harry from running off half-cocked whenever she can. And yes, I have a weakness for the Harry/Hermione ship. Blame it on Lori's Paradigm of Uncertainty fics, which in turn means blame it on [livejournal.com profile] ashfae, since she's the one who recommended that first fic to me, and I don't know if I ever thanked her. So now, thanks, [livejournal.com profile] ashfae. :)
12. Neon Genesis Evangelion
13. Kodomo no Omocha (Child's Toy)
14. Rurouni Kenshin I wanted to not pick something so obvious as the title character, but Kenshin really is my favorite. He's perfect, but in a very flawed way, if that makes any sense. He carries such deep feelings of guilt (which in some ways, he should), but he turns it into a way to do good. I just watched the fight between Kenshin and Sojiro in the Kyoto arc, and dang. Kenshin wins fights not just with fancy moves, but also with morality. I can't wait for the manga to catch up to the Revenge arc. If the second OVA is any indication, mmm...
15. Fruits Basket

Hmm, I should probably go now and figure out who my favorite characters are, shouldn't I?
