How Do You Stay Informed?

This was prompted by a conversation I had the other day with my mom. I'm curious how much news people watch these days, and while this poll is by no means scientific, I still think it could be interesting.

Your last question was fantastic! Something like that actually happened to me recently. A month or two ago I was listening to NPR in the morning, and the announcer mentioned something about Boulder High School and Boulder, CO, and then they said something about a potential shooter. At that point I looked across the street to Boulder High School and noticed the police car sitting 20 ft. from my window and saw caution tape everywhere.

Thanks! It was actually an over-dramatization of the conversation that prompted this poll. My mom was complaining that people were out mowing their lawns and gassing up their cars in the middle of the day, even though the previous two days had been "ozone alert" days. I, of course, hadn't heard this since I don't watch local news, and she got really upset when I suggested that maybe the people she saw hadn't seen the news either.

With particularly newsworthy(?) items, there's often an unacknowledged race amongst the 8 irc channels and 6 messenger networks I'm logged into to spread the news.

It's the 21st century version of the speed of gossip spreading across backyard fences. :-)

That PBS and NPR are not represented. I get my local news updates from NPR local news blurb on the way to work.

Oh, and I like Jon's friends page... I leave it up at work (though I don't actually read most of the feeds).

Oh, and podcasts. I'm constantly downloading NPR podcasts.

Mainly, I watch and surf cnn. Also, I like to catch the Daily Show as often as I can (though, lately, I've been catching more of the Colbert Report b/c I find myself turning to Comedy Central just as the Daily Show is ending, somehow). Fark, too, I suppose.

I almost never watch the local news (your mom would disapprove!). It's just that most of the local news tends to suck big time and provide such little info on things.
