Brief Work Update
Feb. 8th, 2005 09:54 pmAnd now, for altogether too many acronyms.
Yes, I survived the HRVDM EPS Pre-PDR Peer Review. Translation: I hauled my butt out of bed at 4am to drive through the shitterrific weather down to Lockheed-Martin for a 10.5-hour meeting in which Ball presented our concept for the power subsystem on the Hubble Robotic Vehicle Deorbit Module. It went really well, despite the painfully long meeting with only a half-hour lunch break in the middle.
For once, Ball let me present. I guess they forgot I'm not 30 yet *wry grin*. But hey, it went really well, and two of my co-workers came up to me afterward to say how well I did, so that makes me happy. By the end, I was actually getting excited about the work I'll be doing next on this project. And another thing: I'm starting to think this robotic mission might have a chance of working. Granted I haven't seen the other subsystems, and DM EPS is ahead of most of them, but I feel hopeful nonetheless.
I'm also excited because I was told to show up to the ICESat pre-laser-fire review tomorrow afternoon at LASP because they want to give me a plaque for my contribution to the success of the mission. Go me! I'm having a good work week!
In puppy news, I'm lonely tonight as Akito is staying with my parents for a couple of days. With today's long-ass meeting, it simply wasn't fair to keep him caged up, and there really wasn't anyone who I could ask to come let him out at midday. But he started behaving a lot better over the weekend! The key seems to have been stopping him from jumping. I don't get it, but if he bites me less, that's pretty much what matters.
