True, Thursday was lousy, but Friday helped to make up for it. So here are the new developments to report from work.

I'm transferring in with the Power Subsystems group, and it looks like they're much better organized than Systems Engineering (even though they're a subset of that group). The group lead seems organized, they have standards of practice within the group, group meetings take place on a fairly regular basis, and they actually help each other! Perish the thought!

My first assignment is under Commercial Space on ICESat. Apparently, there have been a *lot* of power issues with this spacecraft (I bet [livejournal.com profile] merlion knows all about this one). They've had some people working on this here and there, but the customer wants someone on it full-time, so here I am. It looks like I'll be doing a lot of power analyses and predictions -- very similar to the stuff I was doing at NASA for ISS!

I'm really excited about this assignment because it looks like something I might actually be able to do! *shock, dismay* It should also keep me busy and productive, which is what I've been wanting for over a year now. This won't be an easy assignment, but I think this is something I can do and maybe even get good at. Plus, they're giving me study materials so I can learn about NiH2 batteries in my spare time.

YaY!!!! I have a Ball Power person that I can go to and get HELP from!!!! You can't believe HOW thrilled I am. ICESat will give you a ton of power experience, as it's quite the system.

And very soon, you will get daily emails from me. Dry, charge/discharge ratios, but still.

LALALALA. I have a power person who will talk to me. This makes my day!

Woo hoo! I'm glad this arrangement works out for someone else too! Just give me a little time to study up on the system. They're supposed to send me info on the system, the problems, and what they want on Monday.

Now instead of the three part-time people who were on this, you'll have me full-time. While ICESat is much less complex than ISS, I'm sure it isn't as well modeled or studied either. Should be interesting.

Yeah, I think it will an interesting project.

No sweat about getting up to speed. I think you probably have a couple of weeks before it's crucial (May 17 is a looming date) :P
