Now I shall nitpick your nitpick ;). The Illiad is the name of Homer's epic poem on which the movie is based. Illium is another name for the city of Troy and is the root word of Illiad.
It would definitely be fun to watch this one with you. To say nothing of the angst I'll feel during PoA3. Argh! Cannot dress up and go with a crowd to see, grr, grr...
As for what happens if Paris is prettier than Helen, clearly upon seeing him all the Greeks will stop dead, and then Iphigenia (who for the purposes of this narrative was not in fact sacrificed before the voyage) will steal him and run back to Sparta, causing Helen to lead the Trojans across the seas to get him back, and we'll have an interesting reversal of events. That or we'll just helplessly lust after Orlando Bloom a lot. (Helen who?)
Again just wanted to put forth: I will go if you cannot find another lover of Homer to go with you! I just have a meeting from 7-8 on Friday to get Master Clubbed....
Hate to nitpick
