This seller is really pissing me off. Not just the seller, but the people working for them. Today was my inspection deadline (revised twice), so I turned in my form saying what I found in the inspection that needed fixing. (Yes, the inspection finally happened last Tuesday, even though the property *still* wasn't ready!) I also had an electrician come in on Friday to tell me about some of the wiring being screwed up. (You're not supposed to paint the inside of the breaker panel, morons.)

When I came in to sign the form, the only person there was the guy who's essentially the head of maintenece. He's the jerk who keeps making up stories and promised my place would be done and ready to move into on the 6th. He was still working on it today. Anyway, he made up a new story about how he couldn't get in there for five days because I was having a radon test done. Note: those "five days" were August 6-10. You know, after the place was supposed to be 100% done. Then he tried to tell me that I shouldn't submit my form since he had done everything on it. Subsequent questioning revealed that in his world, "all" really means "half". We got into a very heated discussion where the guy refused to acknowledge logic in any form. I've been angry almost consistently in dealing with these people. The sales realtor asked me if I was getting excited about buying the house, and I said that I was far too superstitious to count on it.

Eventually, this maintenence guy called in his electrician to explain to me that it's okay to paint an electrical panel (even on the inside) because it hasn't blown up yet. WTF?!? This thing had clearly been painted closed for a good long time, and that isn't right either! The guy was trying to convince me that I should accept the place not being safe because it's 30 years old. Bull$#!7. My parents' house is nearly that old and is just fine. The electrician let slip that those panels have an expected lifetime of about 30 years. Now I really want it replaced with a non-painted one. (Paint on wires = bad, IMHO.)

We'll see what happens when the corporate office gets involved. Part of me wants to give them the double-deuce and tell them what they can go do and suggest some garening implements to do it with, but another part of me is sick of the process. I've invested too much time and money in this place to go do it over again.

I'll be lucky if I get through this without developing an ulcer or something.

wow.

That is super sucky...

Any chance you could by-pass the maint jerk and talk to someone who pays him?

painting the _inside_ of an electrical panel == bad. How could anyone think that it was ok? boggling.

Good luck. Hope you don't get an ulcer. :)

Thanks. I've talked to this jerk's boss once before and he's pretty slimy. Made me a bunch of promises that I'd be thoroughly shocked if he stuck to. These guys are out to make every penny they can, and will because it's Boulder.

yeah, the boulder realestate market is pretty insane so I hear.
Makes me even more glad that I bought my house down in broomfield. :)

Stick to your guns and get everything in writing. ;)

Do you inherit the same maintance man? Because it sounds like that would be a deal-breaker for me. GRRRRR. Makes me mad thinking about it.

No, thankfully. Once I own the place, it's up to me to find my own person to do all maintenence (or do it myself).

I say walk.

You're establishing a bad pattern here, letting them get away with this shit repeatedly. Walk away. There are better places. And this is Boulder - they're going to find another buyer immediately.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. ;]

I didn't let him get away with anything. My inspector is sending them a bill for the times he came out and couldn't do the inspection. This guy tried to keep me from turning in my response to the inspection and failed. The fun part was when I told the sales realtor about the fax that she should have gotten, and she hadn't seen it. That jerk had taken it, so it was a good thing he was in there and had already admitted to seeing it.

The point is, once I close, I should never have to deal with these people ever again. I don't know if this is just one guy being an asshole (which I suspect), or if it goes higher (which it could). I do know that they're pissed since they raised the price of that unit by $2500 two days after I signed the contract, and they don't like that I won't just give them that money for nothing.

I'll see what their corporate office's response is to the paperwork I turned in yesterday, and then make a decision.

I'm with Ben on this...but with a twist.

Last scenario is when you call the local TV station that does that "ON your SIDE" thing. They say, "Wow what ass holes". and they jump at the chance for a juicy story. (They will have a field day with the "box painting stooge".)

These things always work out. You will wind up having them Kiss your ass in the county square AND you will wind up getting everything you wanted and MORE. The best part is, It's fun to do it this way....trust me on this.

Are you familiar with Tom Martino (http://www.troubleshooter.com/)? He's probably the one I'd go to if it comes to that (Mom's a big fan of his). At the very least, I will be reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau -- whichever way the sale goes.

Yes ...Like him!

We have a local TV station here in Tampa Bay called, "8 on YOUR side."

Trust me...the better bussiness thing is not going to do anything to resolve the problem...they only write stuff down and file it. When the TV cameras show up though...look out..its, "Yes Mam...No Mam...Right away Mam! It was just an oversight Mam!...It won't happen again Mam!!!...Please don't destroy us MAM!!!!!......We're Sorrrrrry!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Pick up the Phone...you won't regret it.

Trust me you have everything to gain from doing this. My family has had problems like this kind in the past and all they have to do is mention "Tom Martino" and suddenly they become compitent.

'Sides, it's just fun seeing him go after crooks!
