To my surprise, I was able to install the new DVD drive without locking Akito in his crate. He only pestered me a couple of times. The DVD drive itself works great! It's quieter than the old one, and even lets me pause movies! (The old one never let me pause for more than a minute or two before crashing.) I still need to dink with the jumpers to get the computer to recognize both drives, and hopefully get the autoplay function working again. Come to think of it, I also need to find DVD burning software. Anyone have a recommendation for what's good?

I RTFM for the new cable modem, and tried to disable wireless functionality. I'm not sure that it worked, though, since that light is still on. Unfortunately, I can't check the settings again, because in changing the password, I managed to completely lock myself out. Whee. Will be calling tech support soon to try to find an override for that, and figure out how to change the password while still being able to get back in. That made me feel nice and retarded.

I'm also hooking up my VCR to the new monitor, but will need an RCA-to-headphone-type Y-adapter to get the sound plugged into the subwoofer/speakers. Still, it'll be nice, since the monitor has picture-in-picture and other nifty features. Hmm, this also means that I'll be able to hook the cable TV into the monitor via the VCR. Ooh, I can watch The Daily Show again, w00t!

This was a very busy weekend overall. Friday night, I went dancing at Polly Esther's with [livejournal.com profile] illyanarasputin and others for [livejournal.com profile] lilacwire and [livejournal.com profile] sea_siren's birthday. Much fun was had, but oh, were my feet hurting for the next day or two. Happily, I have succeeded in addicting [livejournal.com profile] lilacwire to the Thursday Next series. Muahaha!

Also on Friday, I got Akito a harness for taking walks. A few people recommended this to me to get him to stop yanking my arm off. I think Akito likes the little wrestling match we have every time I put the harness on him, and he seems proud to wear it. The nice part is that he doesn't end up strangling himself, and it's much easier to pull him off of things, people, other dogs, etc. I also got a nifty water bottle that works for both dog and human without cross-contaminating the water. This will be most useful as the weather gets warmer.

Saturday, I went to Jamie's 50s theme party, where we ate bizarre foods in jello molds. If you've never had chicken aspic, be happy, and avoid it in the future. It's like cold chicken soup jello, only less tasty.

Sunday, I helped Kate try on bridesmaid dresses at David's Bridal, and then went to Robin's graduation party with [livejournal.com profile] nalablack. The trampoline was far too much fun, and I managed not to injure myself.

In all, the weekend was lots of fun, and Akito was well-behaved for most of it, which is always a good thing.

Oh yeah. I took a couple of pictures when I first put it on him. Very cute. Here's the really warped part: today, "harness" became his first word.

Yes, my dog spoke to me today. He said "hah-nu" when I was about to put his harness on him.

This rather freaks me out a little.

I did the roller-coaster thing on the Elitch's trip back in 7th grade, and that was plenty for me. Two trips on the old Sidewinder took care of any curiosity I might have had about those things.

Glad to hear you're getting everything up and running in home entertainment.
Prisoner?
How was Bridesmaid dresses at David's Bridal? Mom, Ryan and I will be going there (maybe Dad too) on the 21st for dress looking, though I'm gonna have mine made...still wanna see what looks good on me (in my low self esteem day I'm certain that nothing will) so that in picking out a pattern I don't choose something that looks horrid on me. *sigh* Sorry me me me
Yeah on new good things with Akito!

First off, I liked the color selection David's Bridal had much better than Amanda's (the place way da hex across town that Vickey picked). David's has much brighter colors and I was more impressed with them in general. We found a dress that Kate liked (her bride is just picking the color, and letting her bridesmaids pick their own dress in said color). Getting your dress made sounds like a good idea. Good luck with the shopping around!

Your dog yanks less when he doesn't have a collar strangling him when he yanks??

He's nuts, I tell you! Nuts!!

It's rather counter-intuitive, but it works. I was surprised too. Odd that Akito never seemed to care about getting strangled by the collar. The part where the harness helps is that you end up lifting his front paws a little off the ground (or at least, that's what did happen, until Akito learned to shift his weight properly).
