But it never ceases to amaze me how everyday life can take up so much time, and it happens every day too! *Sigh*

Thanks to everyone who filled out the poll. It's interesting to see what kind of posts people are most interested in reading. I'm going to try to post more often, but for some reason, it's hard to find the time, and I write slowly. Let me try to sum up what I've been up to lately.

My life consists mostly of work, taking care of Akito, rereading all of Harry Potter in anticipation of Book 6 (31 days left!), and oddly enough, going to movies. Work alternates between fun and challenging, and simply making me crazy. I work on two programs currently. The one that takes up most of my time is the Hubble Servicing Mission, where we spend a lot of time playing "guess what the mission is this week." There was a presentation last week to Mike Griffin (the new NASA Administrator). Apparently it went well, but since we don't have a new contract since changing from a robotic mission to a Shuttle-based mission, things are a bit wacky to say the least. The other program I'm on is called ICESat, which is a satellite (currently in orbit) that is measuring the polar ice caps to determine if they're shrinking (the short answer is yes). It does this by means of a laser, which is currently firing. During these laser-fire campaigns, I have daily telecons (yes, on the weekend too). Luckily, they'll be done with this round next week, and this'll go back to being only one meeting per week and a few hours of processing data. Assuming I ever find time, I'm also supposed to do an unrelated task of updating some code to estimate radiation damage on solar panels. No idea when I'm going to get to that.

When I get home every day, I am enthusiastically greeted by a very cute puppy. Unfortunately, Akito seems to have come down with an eye infection today. I strongly suspect it was the prickly grass seed stuff he was rolling in yesterday. I picked a bunch of them out of his fur, but I bet he got one in his eye at some point. This is eye infection #2 for him, whee! So I'm skipping out of work for half the day to take him to Doc's in Aspen Park. Oh well, it's always a nice drive into the mountains, and I could use a break. Overall, Akito's been behaving better, though he still has a way to go. Happily, he has stopped biting my face, and he rarely bites guests anymore.

Movies I've seen recently: Serenity (again, it rocked my socks), Howl's Moving Castle (again, but dubbed this time, and still was quite good), Batman Begins (I was unimpressed, but others seemed to enjoy it).

Current Obsessions: Firefly/Serenity, VNV Nation, Harry Potter, and a vague attempt at getting into shape.

Miscellanea: I finally found some new brake pads for my bike, so hopefully I can do Bike-to-Work Day next week without killing myself. But ugh, I am still so out of shape. I walk Akito a couple miles per day, and I've started swimming one day a week, despite my HOA's efforts to keep people from using things they pay for (*grumble, mutter, grumble*).

As for the roleplaying summaries, I still have them, and hope to write them up, but I am sorry, I have no clue when this will happen. Politics disgusts me, so any rants along those lines will be when free time coincides with rage.

I'm starting to wonder what's in the air these days. It seems like half of my friends list is in therapy, or seriously considering it. Even when I don't comment, I want you guys to know that I worry about you and hope that life starts treating you better soon. You should all know who you are. At the risk of being the pot calling the kettle black, please continue to write about your problems if you feel like that is helping. It isn't good to keep things bottled up. If you want to talk, you know I'm here for you. I hope to find some time soon to write about the things that are bothering me. It's hard knowing who you can talk to about various things, and I tend to feel like I'm whining because my life really isn't that bad.

One of the big things I'm working on right now is trying to be more social. This isn't easy when you know there's a puppy who needs time with you. The obvious solution, of course, is to combine the two things. To that end, I'm going to try to hold more social events at my house. The first one was this past weekend, and I think it went really well. No dis to people who weren't invited, but I want to keep these a bit small in the beginning so I can see how Akito deals with group events. I'll be doing these once in a while, so don't be surprised if you get an invite to something one of these days (if you're local, that is).

And because someone requested a meme, here are my six favorite songs as of this moment (likely to change within ten minutes):

Endless Skies - VNV Nation
Futures - Jimmy Eat World
Homeward - VNV Nation
Scars - Papa Roach
Arena - VNV Nation
Pieces - Sum 41

congrats on getting the bike working. There are also several places in boulder where you can go and for $30 or so get them tuned and aligned.. but it's not rocket science! simple steps (http://www.bikewebsite.com/bicycle-bra.htm). and no NASA contract / MSDS sheet needed for this!

Splendid to hear from you! Despite what you might think, it sounds like you are balancing everything really well. Go you!
