And I really miss vacations. Four whole days without having to go to work. I need to do this more often.

I spent most of the time with Akito, which made him very happy. On Friday, I went swimming, then took Akito hiking on the red rocks trail near Settlers' Park. I think his favorite part was the day care group at the top. What puppy wouldn't like half a dozen kids crowded around, petting him? After the kids left, we climbed around on the rocks for a little while. Akito is so agile! He just scrambled right up some pretty steep boulders. Unfortunately, he climbed a little too high for himself, looked down, got scared, and started crying. Poor little guy! Is it wrong of me to have found that horribly cute? Once I helped him down a little, he was fine.

On Saturday, we checked out the trail around Wonderland Lake, and then I went to see The Winter's Tale at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival with [livejournal.com profile] illyanarasputin and [livejournal.com profile] nakano. It got started an hour late due to rain that couldn't decide when it was done. I partially blame [livejournal.com profile] illyanarasputin for daring the weather. Don't do that in Colorado!

Sunday was more of a lazy day at home, but I did go to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] illyanarasputin and [livejournal.com profile] nakano before heading off to the observatory on campus to watch Deep Impact smash into a comet. Much fun was had, and I saw several coworkers I know. Most of all, I was really excited that the project worked. So many ways it could have gone wrong...

On Monday, Akito and I explored more of the horse trails near home, and we encountered a number of cows with their calves blocking the trail. I was a little nervous that my cattle dog might start trying to herd them, so we hung back until they finished crossing the trail. Last night, I took Akito up to NCAR to watch the 4th of July fireworks. I could see over half a dozen different fireworks shows, though I don't think Akito really noticed them until the Boulder one started. Yes, I have a dog that likes fireworks. He's a little weird, but that just means he's like me. The major trauma of the evening was that there were so many people walking by, and only one or two stopped to pet him. I love my crazy little dog.

I didn't get done half of the things I needed to, but for four days, I decided not to care. I'm too behind on too many things right now, but letting that hang over my head constantly is driving me nuts.

*Sigh* I suppose I've procrastinated long enough, and should actually go to work. But Akito's sleeping so nicely right now...

Such a shame! Not being petted by every person that walked by! Ahh, the horror!
