Yummy Organic Produce!
Jul. 30th, 2005 07:57 pmThere are a number of deeply emotional LJ posts I've mentally written, but after dwelling on all that, I feel the need to write a significantly more frivolous entry that I've been getting around to for a while.
A nifty new service that I recently signed up for is called Door to Door Organics. This is a company that started in Boulder around February (and has since moved to Denver). What they do is deliver organic fruit and vegetables to your door. They have several levels of service based on how much you want. I get the "bitty" box every other week, which works out pretty well for one person and a puppy dog. Everything they give you is certified organic, and they get as much as they can from local farmers. Sometimes the stuff is at your door within 24 hours of being removed from the ground (tree, vine, etc.), so it's really fresh. I've had two deliveries so far and have been quite impressed with what I received. For example, my first box contained: a big thing of spinach, a head(?) of green leaf lettuce, 7 medium-sized carrots, 2 ears of white corn, 3 plums, 2 oranges, 2 grapefruit, 3 bananas, and a frozen bottle of El Dorado water to keep it all refrigerated on my porch. The stuff is good quality, though sometimes a bit small.
Anyway, it's kind of a neat thing, and it's getting me to eat more fruit and vegetables, which is always good. If anyone else is interested in this, feel free to ask me about it. Also, if you try it out, they have a really good deal with referrals, so please mention my name :).
I think I'm going to watch some more Stargate now. Or something equally mindless.
