Updates & Stuff on This Turkey Day
Nov. 24th, 2005 10:32 pmSeems like half of my friends list is doing the "what I'm thankful for" meme, but as we never really did that in my family, and I have nothing original to add, I'm going to skip that one for now. Instead, here's a brief update of what's going on in Willow Land.
I've done three interviews so far, two in person and one over the phone. All have gone well; none have panned out. C'est la vie. In the meantime, I'm working at Jo-Ann Fabrics for the two-month holiday season. My hours are pretty wacky, but limited. My unemployment only lets me earn ~$100 per week before penalizing me, which amounts to 15 hours per week. It's a fun job, though it makes me sad when I think about how little I'm getting paid.
The thing that just struck me is that I'm working tomorrow. (Actually, I'm working all weekend, but that's beside the point.) This results in two firsts for me. One is that I've never worked on the day after Thanksgiving before (taking ten minutes to feed silkworms doesn't count). The other is that I've never ventured into a store on the day after Thanksgiving. This makes me a bit nervous, as I'm generally of the opinion that someone who would get up early for shopping of all things must be a pretty scary individual, and the day after Thanksgiving is some sort of national holiday for them. Of course, I'm not a big fan of consumerism in general, so take that however you will. Anyway, I guess the thing is that I'm a little scared of dealing with shoppers tomorrow, so cross your fingers for me.
The other great accomplisment is that I've already given out the first of my [insert holiday here] gifts, and even have gotten started on others. Next thing I know, I might even make a list of who I'm giving stuff to, which has probably only happened once or twice before. (Can you feel the disorganization?) The next big thing to deal with is actually packing stuff in boxes and going to the post office to send things to people who don't live nearby. It's sad to say, but none of those things made it into the mail last year because I suck. It's not really an aversion, just one of those things that I tend not to do for some inexplicable reason.
Okay, must go to sleep so I can be up early tomorrow. Oh, and heaven help me, but for the first time since book 6 came out, I've started reading HP fanfic again. I fear that monkey will never truly leave my back...at least not until I get to the end of Lori's wonderful trilogy. In case anyone was wondering, my NaNoWriMo attempt is pretty much DoA at about 8500 words.
