Pardon Me While I Burn My Bra
Mar. 23rd, 2004 10:27 pmI just saw the movie Some Like It Hot with Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon. Now I know why my mom never showed me Marilyn Monroe movies and I hope to never see one again. Gads! I mean, I try not to be overly PC about things, and I like to think I can take a joke, but the attitudes were just horrifying. If it wasn't so late, I'd call my mom right now and thank her personally for any role she might have played in the Women's Movement in the 1960s. *Shudder* Welcome to my personal pet peeve about stupidity.
Right now, I don't care if I ever date again, so long as I get to keep my brain. *hugs engineering textbooks*
Sorry,
illyanarasputin, but that movie just hurt me.
Edit: Jodie Foster has made it all better.

Date: 2004-03-25 12:16 am (UTC)So can Bowhay.
So can all men. Even gay ones. Most gay men that I know (and I knew quite a few in college @w@) loved Marilyn Monroe. Not because she was a bimbo on the screen, but because she was able to get as far as she did doing with what she had at the time. That and she's probably one of the most beautiful women to have existed by photographic history.
I don't condone objectifying women, even though I happen to enjoy my Playboy (they have great articles). However, there's something to be said for understanding a movie in context and going beyond what may offend you.
I wish I could have been there to see the movie. I haven't seen anything beyond the seven year itch, and I would have enjoyed seeing it. I know I would have enjoyed it; but then again, I guess I'm typically male.
Thank god I have an understanding fiancee, I guess.
