Happy Chanukah to all who care. It is coming way too early this year. I have part of [livejournal.com profile] ashfae's gift, and that's about all. No clue what to get for the parents. I'm just glad I was able to find the box that had my menorah in it, plus some leftover candles from previous years, since I didn't have the presence of mind to buy any.

In the meantime, I heard an amusing parody of Outkast's "Hey, Yeah" that was Chanukah themed. It was thoroughly entertaining to hear a Chanukah song that isn't by Adam Sandler (those were good the first hundred times or so) or that stupid dreidel song.

I have lit my candles. May they join with the other festivals of light to beat back the darkness of winter and cease the shortening of days.

Edit: If you would like to know the story of Chanukah, go read today's Something Positive. This has to be one of the funniest versions I've seen.

Argh, I forgot to say that yesterday was the first day of Hanukkah. Happy Hanukkah. (or Chanukah, Chanukkah, everyone I know has a different way of spelling it...)

*does the happy dance of dreidel expectation*

As for Hanukkah songs, this is a bit of a stretch, but when I was at Fairview High, our choir sang an interesting version of Al Hanissim. Okay, not terribly interesting, but in four part harmony. I loved that choir. We sang a nice range of things instead of the same old, same old. Anyway, it ended up on the CD we made of the things we'd done that year, so I could send you that if you're curious.

Thanks! Yea for words that transliterate badly into Latin characters. I would be curious about that song. When I was in choir in elementary school, we once came up with a non-dreidel Chanukah song that was actually pretty decent, though I don't really remember it anymore.

Yes, must get on that package for you.... I'm so very disorganized this year, though much of that can be blamed on work.

Thank you. That was my intent. Most cultures have some kind of festival of light this time of year, so I wanted to say something to welcome all of them.

Ok, did Chanukah start last night which is today or does it start tonight which is tomorrow?

The Barenaked Ladies have a Chanukah themed song on their newest album I think. (Goes to check *****'s present ... oop, make that 2 songs. BNL rocks!)

Oh, and the Something Postive link is just wrong. I rolled out of my seat with laughter. Thanks for sharing!

Chanukah started the evening of December 7, so December 8 is the first day. Confusing, isn't it? It helps when half the calendars get it wrong too.

Ooh, BNL has Chanukah songs? Must find...

Chanuka? What is that, some kind of Cambodian sex toy or something?

Or does it refer to Chandians (filthy godless hockey playing pot smoking Chanuks!)

Seriously, what kinda pagan commercially driven holiday are you making up this week just so you can sit in front of your dvd player with some Buffy DVD'S?

Out of protest I'm going to celebrate Palestinanian holiday that is not Chanuka at all! I call it...Hakunahc!!!!!!!!

The MERGOAT ABIDES!!!!

On Hakunahc, we light a different minority on fire each night for 3 nights to represent the military victory of Wales over Manchester United on 3 January 1066. We eat our parrots and wear live dogs as hats to celebrate our g-d! And if we are reallly good ( or if we suffer massive head injuries) our g-d will turn our blood into alchohol and cheese! Sometiems both!

Hee Hee! Teacher says I'm an instigator!

Happy Chanukah Will!
